The Atlantic Culture Promotion Agency - APCA is preparing the exhibition What is Watt? in several municipalities in the Region during the year 2024. The exhibition carried out by António Barros, António Dantas, Carlos Valente, Celeste Cerqueira, Evangelina Sirgado de Sousa, Hugo Olim, Pedro Pestana and Silvestre Pestana, inaugurated the MADEIRADiG 2023 festival program , between November 30th and December 5th, on the west coast of Madeira Island, now preparing for regional and, in the future, national circulation.

Therefore, What is Watt? It will be on view at the Municipal Library of São Vicente, from January 19th to March 13th. Its inauguration is scheduled for 4:30 pm on January 19th with the screening of the documentary ‘What is Watt?’, directed by Hugo Olim. The event will be attended by Rosa Castanho, Councilor of the São Vicente City Council.

Remember that the exhibition What is Watt? is an interdisciplinary artistic project whose genesis is the promotion and exploration of different languages of artistic expression in which electricity is the guiding principle, both in the execution and presentation of the works. The project refers to the questioning of artistic praxis in contemporary times, which meets emerging technologies and the resulting availability of global participation. That is, a widespread tendency towards the dematerialization of the work of art is recognized, which corresponds to multiple connections between art, science and technology.

Since 2001, this project has brought together a group of artists, mostly from the island of Madeira, with an artistic practice of a technological nature. The project aims to achieve two main vectors: on the one hand, to establish the creative heritage with a strong Madeiran flavor in the field of new media and experimental poetry, and on the other, to offer the public the opportunity to rediscover the project that has already celebrated more than 20 years, through the establishment of a new traveling exhibition.
