From October 15th to 21st, Funchal hosts the first edition of FX Digital Art - International Digital Art Exhibition, a cultural inclusion initiative promoted by APCA - Atlantic Culture Promotion Agency. Directed and curated by Hernando Urrutia, the project's main objective is to bring citizens closer to contemporary artistic creation, transforming urban spaces into a stage for aesthetic enjoyment, reflection, and digital experimentation.
The exhibition features two-dimensional (2D) digital artworks by national and international artists, with a special focus on European creators. The works, selected through a curatorial process, will be displayed in an urban circuit designed for public space, utilizing existing infrastructure such as billboards and public transportation shelters along Avenida do Mar. Each work will be accompanied by two QR codes, allowing the public to access additional content about the artists, the works, and the exhibition circuit itself through the project's official website.
With this innovative approach, the FX Digital Art project promotes democratic access to contemporary art, bringing digital creativity to the city and beyond. The initiative proposes a new way to encounter art in everyday urban spaces, such as bus stops, where waiting time becomes an opportunity for contemplation and discovery.
The result of this creative process is a unique group exhibition, curated by Hugo Olim, which combines multiple contemporary languages. Using digital technologies and multimedia, the works explore different perspectives on insularity, the relationship with the sea, the peripheries, and the very concept of the unknown, stimulating reflection on contemporary Atlantic life.
The event also includes the conference "Digital Art in Public Space," which will take place on October 17th at 6 pm at Galeria Tratuário. In this session, Hernando Urrutia, the project's director and curator, will discuss the case study of digital art in public spaces and the emergence and relevance of FX Digital Art as an innovative approach to bridging the gap between art, technology, and the community. Admission is free.
A production of APCA - Agency for the Promotion of Atlantic Culture, with the support of DREAMMEDIA, Diário de Notícias and the Portuguese Republic - Culture, Youth and Sports / Directorate-General for the Arts.
