Funchal City Sessions continues its programme with Sal Grosso, the artistic project of António Silva, who will perform as part of the 6th edition on 28 March.
A proactive and dynamic presence in Portugal’s independent music scene, his style draws on a range of influences, including new age, minimalism and kosmische musik. His music takes the form of a tug of war between space, repetition, time and the senses. Uncompromising, hypnotic and at times psychedelic, it explores themes such as memory, emotion and consciousness, in an attempt to map the world — past, present and future — that surrounds him.
In 2023, he released the album Istmos on Colectivo Casa Amarela, a work that preserves the naïve character of his earlier recordings while exploring new sonic landscapes, built from delicate melodies and undulating synthesised sounds, always captured in a single take. The album was composed and recorded at home by Sal Grosso and subsequently completed with the collaboration of Ricardo Cabral and José Miguel Silva, who were responsible for its production, mixing and mastering.
For his debut in Madeira, the artist will present a repertoire combining new and older material, proposing a sonic journey with no defined duration.

APCA – Agência de Promoção da Cultura Atlântica has announced a new programme for Funchal City Sessions, with monthly concerts taking place throughout 2026 in the city of Funchal. Conservatório – Escola das Artes da Madeira, Eng.º Luiz Peter Clode, is part of the project’s partner network, hosting the training activities and fostering direct contact between artists and students enrolled in professional courses.
Originally conceived as an extension of the MADEIRADiG Festival, Funchal City Sessions focuses on engaging, educating and developing new audiences for Digital Arts. The initiative is promoted by APCA in partnership with Colectivo Casa Amarela and Conservatório – Escola das Artes da Madeira, Eng.º Luiz Peter Clode, with the support of the Portuguese Republic – Culture, Youth and Sport / Directorate-General for the Arts.
