Fábrica de Prazeres, a new cultural venue located in the parish of Prazeres, in the municipality of Calheta, will officially open to the public on 30 April, marking an important step towards decentralising the artistic offering across the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
The result of a co-production between APCA – Agência de Promoção da Cultura Atlântica and BoloMacaco – Fábrica de Prazeres, the venue was created through the restoration of a former abandoned factory by artistic director Vladislav Bejder, transforming it into a dynamic and inclusive cultural hub. The initiative aims to establish a continuous programme of cultural and social events, fostering dialogue between the local community and the growing international community living in the area.
The opening will be marked by two major exhibitions: The Island. Madeira by Stefan Nimmesgern and THE FACTORY. The Art of Silk Printing by Andy Warhol.
Renowned German photographer Stefan Nimmesgern presents an exhibition dedicated to the island of Madeira, a territory he has been documenting as part of his latest book, to be published by National Geographic. The exhibition brings together images capturing the natural, cultural and human diversity of the archipelago, offering a sensitive perspective on Madeira’s landscapes, communities and everyday life.
The second exhibition pays tribute to the world of Andy Warhol, a central figure of Pop Art, recreating the spirit of his iconic studio, The Factory. Inspired by the concept of serial artistic production, the exhibition explores screen printing, one of the defining techniques of Pop Art, highlighting the relationship between art, mass culture and consumer society. The exhibition proposes an artistic experience that brings the past into dialogue with the contemporary, celebrating the creative and experimental energy associated with Pop Art.
The future programme will also feature Madeiran artist Fátima Spínola, who will present an exhibition at Fábrica de Prazeres in September.
The opening will take place on 30 April at 12:00 pm, inviting the public to discover this new cultural centre and take part in a moment that marks the beginning of an ambitious and innovative programme.
Fábrica de Prazeres is conceived as a multifunctional space capable of hosting exhibitions, concerts and a wide range of cultural events, further strengthening the artistic dynamism of Calheta and Madeira.
