Doroteia at the 8th Edition of Funchal City Sessions

Funchal City Sessions continues its programme with Doroteia, the stage name of Elisabete Guerra, who will perform as part of the 8th edition of Funchal City Sessions on 30 May.

Doroteia, vocalist and guitarist of the quartet BBB Hairdryer, has established herself as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Portuguese alternative music. Alongside her work with the band, she began exploring an independent artistic path at an early stage, sharing original compositions and sound sketches through platforms such as SoundCloud, revealing from the outset a raw, immediate and deeply personal style.

Many of these early songs, written and released between 2018 and 2020, laid the foundations for the early development of BBB Hairdryer and their debut album, anticipating a creative identity that would later evolve towards a more collective, intense and expansive approach. On the band’s second album, Doroteia’s songwriting became a cathartic and visceral force, deeply rooted in noise rock and an expression of extreme emotional intensity.

It is within this context of continuous artistic transformation that Elisabete is now expanding her musical language beyond the band through a solo project that allows her to explore new sonic territories and more experimental dimensions. Moving between ambient noise landscapes and intimate original songs, this new chapter reveals an artist in constant discovery, deepening the emotional and aesthetic urgency that has characterised her work.

Through her solo project, the artist develops a deeply autobiographical practice, where sonic experimentation intersects with personal writing to shape compositions that reflect multiple layers of her experience, sensitivity and artistic vision. It is a space of creative freedom in which vulnerability, intensity and the ongoing search for new forms of expression emerge as central elements of her identity.

APCA – Agência de Promoção da Cultura Atlântica has announced a new programme for Funchal City Sessions, with monthly concerts taking place throughout 2026 in the city of Funchal. Conservatório – Escola das Artes da Madeira, Eng.º Luiz Peter Clode, is part of the project’s partner network, hosting the training activities and fostering direct contact between artists and students enrolled in professional courses.

Originally conceived as an extension of the MADEIRADiG Festival, Funchal City Sessions focuses on engaging, educating and developing new audiences for Digital Arts. The initiative is promoted by APCA in partnership with Colectivo Casa Amarela and Conservatório – Escola das Artes da Madeira, Eng.º Luiz Peter Clode, with the sponsorship of Elby, Quinta Moscadinha and Instituto do Vinho, do Bordado e do Artesanato da Madeira, and the support of the Portuguese Republic – Culture, Youth and Sport / Directorate-General for the Arts.
