On September 10th, at 7 PM, the John dos Passos Cultural Center will host Anatomy of Code, a live audiovisual performance by Ukrainian musician, composer, and sound artist Andriy Kyrychenko, as part of the TRANSGRESSION art + technology LAPP 3 (Live Audiovisual Performance Programme).
Internationally recognized for his work in experimental electronic and electroacoustic music, Andriy Kyrychenko has been developing artistic research focused on exploring the boundaries between sound, technology, and image for over two decades. Founder of the independent label Nexsound and the Next Sound Festival, he has collaborated with names such as Kim Cascone, Martin Brandlmayr, and Francisco López, and has presented his work at international festivals such as CTM, Unsound, Audio Art, and Les Urbaines.
In Anatomy of Code, the artist transforms real DNA data into sonic and visual material. From the raw file of a genetic test, he developed a real-time audiovisual composition where the genetic sequences determine the structure of the work. Organized into 23 parts, corresponding to human chromosomes, the performance uses generative systems that convert genetic information into music and images, creating an immersive experience in constant transformation.
Developed using TouchDesigner and Ableton Live, the performance is performed live by the artist, who controls the evolution of sound and visual elements in real time. More than a scientific genetic representation, Anatomy of Code proposes a sensory experience where an invisible code becomes audible and visible, exploring the relationship between biological information, algorithmic composition, and artistic expression.
Lasting approximately 40 minutes, the work was designed exclusively for live presentation, in projection or LED screen format, with stereo sound. For audiences aged 14 and over, tickets are already available on Eventbrite, at a cost of 10 euros.
The presentation is part of the TRANSGRESSION art + technology LAPP 3 (Live Audiovisual Performance Programme), a program dedicated to contemporary audiovisual performance that promotes the intersection between art, technology, and digital experimentation. Throughout the 2025-2026 edition, the project brings together national and international artists whose practices explore the languages of sound art, moving images, and new media.
The project is promoted by APCA - Agência de Promoção da Cultura Atlântica (Agency for the Promotion of Atlantic Culture), with curatorship and artistic direction by Hernando Urrutia, and has the support of the Regional Secretariat of Tourism, Environment and Culture - Regional Directorate of Culture, through the John dos Passos Cultural Center, as well as the Portuguese Republic - Culture, Youth and Sports / General Directorate of Arts.
