Funchal City Sessions continues its programme with Usof, who will perform as part of the 9th edition on 27 June at Galeria Tratuário.
A visual creator and sound engineer based in Lisbon, Usof develops a sonic language rooted in ambient music, expanding it into territories of greater depth and complexity. His work is distinguished by the creation of abstract and immersive atmospheres, where free improvisation, vocal samples (ASMR), digital sounds and ethereal textures intersect.
On his latest album, Stay Longer, released by the label Theory Therapy, he delves deeper into an aesthetic that is both enigmatic and ephemeral, constructing an amorphous soundscape in constant transformation. Moving between moments of serenity and tension, the album emerges as an honest exploration of human interiority, oscillating between the soothing and the chaotic.
In 2023, the label Psychic Liberation released Wish You Were Nicer, a work bringing together influences from 20th-century composition, dub sound-system culture, the club and rave culture of the 1990s, cinematic sound design and post-cybernetic imaginaries, while also reflecting on the cultural and social concerns of the present.
A member of the collectives Living Room and Tundra, Usof has presented his work at various festivals dedicated to exploratory music in Portugal and across Europe, maintaining an open approach to the multiple expressive possibilities of the ambient universe.
His performance at Funchal City Sessions proposes an immersive listening experience, shaped by the tension between fragility and intensity, inviting audiences to inhabit the space between reality and imagination.
