The Galeria Tratuário is hosting a public exhibition of the work produced in the "Oficinas de Observar e Desenhar Futuros"

APCA - The Agency for the Promotion of Atlantic Culture in collaboration with the Wamãe - Association - Public Anthropology, is organising a public presentation at the Galeria Tratuário showcasing the work produced by children and young people from various schools and institutions as part of the "Oficinas de Observar e Desenhar Futuros".

The presentation will take place on 19 September at 4:00 pm and will bring together participants from the Palheiro Ferreiro branch of the SocioHabita Funchal Summer Camp, the EB1 / PEC Professor Eleutério de Aguiar Primary and Secondary School, the Santa Cruz Primary and Secondary School and the Jaime Moniz Secondary School.

This project comprises eight sessions, which took place between August 2025 and June 2026, during which young people and children were challenged to reflect on themes such as autonomy, democracy and tolerance, through the exploration of the arts and audiovisual technologies, in a participatory and interdisciplinary learning process.

The "Oficinas de Observar e Desenhar Futuros" are aimed at children and young people aged between 6 and 18 and promote teamwork, active listening and collective participation, using group games, trust-building activities and creative expression exercises.

Throughout 2025 and the first half of 2026, the project took place at the Palheiro Ferreiro Community Centre, the Louros School, the Santa Cruz School and the Jaime Moniz Secondary School. In each setting, the space where the workshops took place was transformed into a real film studio, where filming began and sounds, voices and musical compositions were explored to bring expression and emotion to the images.

Participants learnt how to use audiovisual equipment, explored strategies for storytelling and written production, and put the knowledge they had acquired into practice. They also undertook exercises in scriptwriting, set design, character development and learning the fundamental principles of film directing, namely shot composition, visual narrative and framing.

The programme also included Theatre of the Oppressed exercices, centred on imagined cities, as well as technical filmmaking practices, fostering a collaborative working environment based on the ideia of 'hierarchical alternation', in which participants take on different roles and responsibilities on a rotating basis. At the same time, discussions were encouraged on time, the work and the sequence of events.

The films currently being produced centre on the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the autonomy of the Autonomous Region Of Madeira, establishing themselves as a space for artistic creation, critical thinking and civic participation amongst young people.

Throughout the creative process, each participant took on different technical, artistic and reflective roles, contributing to the collective creation of a film that combines educational objectives from primary to secondary shcool with the work of Raúl Brandão, within an ecosystem that values cooperation and teamwork. The project also sought to stimulate anthropological reflection on historical relativism, cultural belonging and diversity.
