Fábrica de Prazeres, a new cultural venue located in the parish of Prazeres, in the municipality of Calheta, will open its second programme on 10 September at 11:00 am, presenting two exhibitions that bring contemporary creation into dialogue with art history: SKIN | Pele. Metes-me Nojo, by Fátima Spínola, and The Factory: The Art of Silk Printing II, by Andy Warhol.
Officially opened to the public on 30 April 2026, Fábrica de Prazeres is the result of a co-production between APCA – Agência de Promoção da Cultura Atlântica and BoloMacaco – Fábrica de Prazeres. The project emerged from the restoration of a former abandoned factory, led by artistic director Vladislav Bejder, transforming the space into a new cultural hub dedicated to presenting and promoting artistic creation in Madeira.
The new programme reinforces Fábrica de Prazeres’ commitment to decentralising cultural offerings across the Autonomous Region of Madeira, presenting a diverse range of artistic proposals in a multifunctional space capable of hosting exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events.
Madeiran artist Fátima Spínola presents SKIN | Pele. Metes-me Nojo, an exhibition conceived as a journey through a series of works, creating an environment in which painting, installation, video, light and sound operate as parts of a single organism. Objects associated with everyday life and the domestic sphere are removed from their usual contexts and acquire new sculptural, theatrical and symbolic dimensions. Traces, fragments and actions evoke the presence of the body without directly representing it, inviting visitors into a physical experience shaped by proximity, discomfort and recognition.
Metes-me Nojo (“You disgust me”) emerges as a rupture rather than a statement. The expression introduces a form of proximity that resists resolution: between the viewer and what is being viewed, between attraction and repulsion, between intimacy and exposure. The exhibition takes shape precisely within this space of tension, rejecting a single interpretation and inviting the viewer to remain in a territory of uncertainty.
The programme also features a new collection dedicated to Andy Warhol, continuing the first exhibition presented by Fábrica de Prazeres.
The Factory: The Art of Silk Printing II brings together a new selection of silkscreen prints by the American artist, with particular emphasis on themes such as animals, advertising and mass culture.
The exhibition offers an opportunity to revisit the world of The Factory, Warhol’s iconic New York studio, and to gain a closer understanding of an artistic process rooted in serial production. Through silkscreen printing, one of the defining techniques of Pop Art, the exhibition explores the relationship between art, popular culture and consumer society.
The new selection of works continues the exploration of an artistic process that profoundly shaped the history of modern art and helped transform the relationship between artistic creation, mass culture and consumer society.
The opening of both exhibitions will take place on Thursday, 10 September at 11:00 am at Fábrica de Prazeres, in Prazeres, Calheta, inviting the public to discover the new programme and experience another stage in the development of this cultural project.
With a programme spanning different artistic languages and disciplines, Fábrica de Prazeres aims to establish itself as a leading cultural venue in Calheta and across the Autonomous Region of Madeira, contributing to greater decentralisation of the arts and creating new opportunities for access to culture.
