Third Training Activity of the European C-Cycle Project Successfully Completed in The Hague, Netherlands

The third training activity of the European C-Cycle project – Cooperation on Cultural Yield through Coaching and Learning Evolution (2024-1-EL01-KA220-VET-000257519), co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, was successfully completed in July 2026 in The Hague, Netherlands.

The training activity, entitled Strengthening Cultural Resilience and the Capacity of Local Communities in Remote Territories, was organised by The Hague Academy for Local Governance and the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG).

The two-day programme brought together 21 participants from Greece, Madeira, Portugal and the Netherlands, including representatives of local authorities from Dutch municipalities located in remote territories, cultural organisations and project partner institutions. The training focused on cultural policies, European Union funding opportunities, cultural education and participation, as well as the development of action plans to promote sustainable cultural development in local communities and remote territories.

Throughout the training, participants shared experiences from Madeira, Greece and the Netherlands, discussed the challenges associated with developing local cultural policies, and explored good practices for strengthening cultural ecosystems. Particular attention was given to how municipalities and cultural organisations can work together to promote cultural participation, strengthen social cohesion and drive sustainable local development. 

 

One of the highlights of the programme was a study visit to CultuurSchakel, where participants had the opportunity to gain practical insight into the organisation’s work promoting arts education and cultural participation in The Hague. The visit provided concrete examples of how local cultural infrastructure can facilitate access to culture and strengthen community engagement.

Through interactive workshops facilitated by The Hague Academy for Local Governance, participants translated the knowledge acquired during the training into concrete proposals for application in their own local contexts. Contributions from partners and experts from APCA – Agência de Promoção da Cultura Atlântica, the University of Madeira, EETAA – Hellenic Agency for Local Development and Local Government, and The Hague Academy for Local Governance enriched the exchange of experiences and strengthened the transnational dimension of the learning promoted by the project.

The successful completion of the training in The Hague once again highlights the importance of European cooperation in strengthening cultural resilience, particularly within local communities and remote territories. By combining peer-to-peer exchange, practical examples and action-oriented learning methodologies, the C-Cycle project continues to consolidate a European network of local authorities, cultural organisations and training institutions committed to promoting more participatory and sustainable cultural policies.

The C-Cycle project will now move forward with the organisation of cultural events in all partner countries, continuing to support cultural professionals and local governance stakeholders in developing the skills, partnerships and tools needed to strengthen local cultural ecosystems across Europe.
