APCA – Agency for the Promotion of Atlantic Culture is launching the Ilhas Revisitadas open call tomorrow, 15 November. Aimed at individual artists from the Azores and Madeira, the call invites contemporary artists to submit their proposals.

As part of the exhibition project Ilhas Revisitadas, inspired by the centenary celebrations of the publication of As Ilhas Desconhecidas by Raúl Brandão, this open call seeks to select two contemporary artists — one from or based in Madeira and another from or based in the Azores — to establish a dialogue between the two Portuguese archipelagos through an artistic reinterpretation of the island imaginaries described by Brandão in 1926.

The open call offers the opportunity to take part in an artistic residency in February 2026, during which the selected artists will work together at MUDAS – Museum of Contemporary Art of Madeira and Arquipélago – Contemporary Arts Centre, spending seven days at each location and fostering an ongoing dialogue between them. The works resulting from the residency will be presented for the first time in an exhibition at MUDAS and subsequently at Arquipélago – Contemporary Arts Centre.

As part of the ongoing City Sessions programme, on 28 November at 4:00 pm, also at Galeria Tratuário, a Design de Artworks e Cartazes workshop will take place, dedicated to creating imagery for the world of music. Led by Mafalda Melim, visual artist and co-founder of Colectivo Casa Amarela, the session will explore different ways of creating artwork or a poster, without rules and with no prior design experience required. The approach is DIY, focusing on hands-on practice and free experimentation with visual materials, collages, photographs and digital textures.

Full information and the complete regulations can be found here.
