Originally conceived as MADEIRADiG CiTY SESSIONS, which, with the festival's hiatus, underwent a change of identity to 'Funchal City Sessions', the 2nd edition now presents 'Carga Aérea', a project by Portuguese composer Francisco Marujo, which will take place on September 13th, at 9:30 pm, at Tratuario Gallery.
The confrontation with the invisible and the ethereal that permeate the artist's daily life is the starting point for 'Carga Aérea', a pseudonym that gives body to Francisco Marujo's spectral reveries, oscillating between the most serene and nostalgic and the most intense fringes of pain.
His latest EP, "Sonda" (Colectivo Casa Amarela, 2025), represents a long period of maturation that began in September 2019, when the artist was on Erasmus in the Netherlands.
There are only four tracks, but each one acts as a portal to very specific memories of moments, feelings, places, and people associated with this phase of life. At a time when ambient music has often been dismissed as mere background noise, dominated by playlists, bots, artificial intelligence, or the logic of corporate greed, releases like "Sonda" remind us of the vulnerability and emotional intensity that characterize the best experimental music. These songs are evocative and emotional, but never obvious or linear.
And there«s also something new in this 2nd edition: after the 'Carga Aérea' show, there will be an after session at Tratuario Gallery, in order to enhance the spirit of the event and celebrate music in a relaxed atmosphere.
