What is Watt? at Museu de Angra do Heroísmo
Organized by APCA - Atlantic Culture Promotion Agency, the exhibition "What is Watt?" continues its journey to Terceira Island, presenting a project that is over 20 years old, which promotes the languages of video art from different cultures.
The exhibition, carried out by António Barros, António Dantas, Carlos Valente, Celeste Cerqueira, Evangelina Sirgado de Sousa, Hugo Olim, Pedro Pestana and Silvestre Pestana, toured various points in Madeira throughout 2024, including São Vicente, Porto Santo, Machico, Santana, Santa Cruz, the Strait of Câmara de Lobos - and also the city of Porto.
Now, the project heads to the Azores, more specifically to Terceira Island, where it will be on display at the Angra do Heroísmo Museum until June 21st.
About "What is Watt?"
"What is Watt?" It is an interdisciplinary artistic project that has at its genesis the promotion and exploration of different languages of artistic expression in which electricity is the guiding thread, both in the execution and in the presentation of the works.
The project addresses the questioning of artistic practice in contemporary times, which is in line with emerging technologies and the consequent availability of global participation. In other words, a generalized tendency towards the dematerialization of the work of art is recognized, which corresponds to multiple connections between art, science and technology.
Since 2001, this project has brought together a group of artists, mostly from the island of Madeira, with an artistic practice of a technological nature.
The idea of presenting the project "What is Watt?" again had the purpose of achieving two main vectors: on the one hand, to establish the creative heritage with a strong Madeiran stamp in the field of new media and experimental poetry and, on the other hand, to offer the public the opportunity to rediscover the project that has already celebrated more than 20 years, through the establishment of a new traveling exhibition.
